A few years later, he commissioned Chicago woodcarver Theodore Mack to sculpt a likeness of a rascallyIrish newspaperboy he knew. The head went on a dummy named Charlie McCarthy, which became Bergen's lifelong sidekick. At age 16, he went to Chicago, where he attended Lake View High School and worked at a silent movie house. For college he attended Northwestern University where he was enrolled in the School of Speech.[2] He gave his first public performance at Waveland Avenue Congregational Church located on the northeast corner of Waveland and Janssen. He lived across the street from the church. In 1965, he gave the church a generous contribution, a thoughtful letter, and a photograph of himself which had been requested by the minister and was displayed in the church's assembly room which was dedicated to Bergen. Bergan had an interest in aviation, becoming a private pilot.[3]

Johann Strauss III (February 16, 1866 – January 9, 1939; German: Johann Strauß III; also known as Johann Eduard Strauss) was an Austrian composer whose father was Eduard Strauss, whose uncles were Johann Strauss II & Josef Strauss, and whose grandfather was Johann Strauss I. He was unofficially entrusted with the task of upholding his family's tradition after the dissolution of the Strauss Orchestra by his father in 1901. His talents were not fully realised during his lifetime as musical tastes had changed in the Silver Age with more popular composers such as Franz Lehár and Oscar Straus dominating the Viennese musical scene with their operettas, although his uncle, Johann Strauss II, supervised his development as a musician, a fact disputed by Eduard Strauss.

Born Margot Louise Hemingway in Portland, Oregon, she was the older sister of actress Mariel Hemingway and the granddaughter of writer Ernest Hemingway. When she learned that she was named after the wine, Château Margaux, which her parents, Byra Louise (née Whittlesey) and Jack Hemingway (eldest son of Ernest), were drinking the night she was conceived, she changed the original spelling from "Margot" to "Margaux" to match.[3] In addition to Mariel, she had another sister, Joan (nicknamed Muffet) and grew up in Idaho on her grandfather's farm in Ketchum. Margaux struggled with a variety of disorders in addition to alcoholism, including depression, bulimia, and epilepsy. She allowed a video recording to be made of a therapy session related to her bulimia, and it was broadcast on television. Hemingway also suffered from dyslexia.[4][5] more....... |
