Wilhelm Carl Grimm (also Karl;[a] 24 February 1786 – 16 December 1859) was a German author, the younger of theBrothers Grimm.
He was born in Hanau, Hesse-Kassel and in 1803 he started studying law at the University of Marburg, one year after his brother Jacob started there. The whole of the lives of the two brothers was passed together. In their school days, they had one bed and one table in common. As students, they had two beds and two tables in the same room. They always lived under one roof, and had their books and property in common.[1] Grimm's tomb in Berlin In 1825 Wilhelm married a pharmacist's daughter; Henriette Dorothea Wild, also known as Dortchen, at age 39. Wilhelm's marriage in no way disturbed the harmony of the brothers.[1] As Richard Cleasby said, “they both live in the same house, and in such harmony and community that one might almost imagine the children were common property.”[1][2] Together, Wilhelm and Henriette had four children: Jacob Grimm (3 April 1826 – 15 December 1826), Herman Friedrich Grimm (6 January 1828 – 16 June 1901), Rudolf Georg Grimm (31 March 1830 – 13 November 1889), and Barbara Auguste Luise Pauline Marie (21 August 1832 – 9 February 1919). more....... |
Chester William Nimitz (February 24, 1885 – February 20, 1966) was a fleet admiral of the United States Navy. He played a major role in the naval history of World War II as Commander in Chief, United States Pacific Fleet(CinCPac), for U.S. naval forces and Commander in Chief, Pacific Ocean Areas (CinCPOA), for U.S. and Allied air, land, and sea forces during World War II.[2]
Nimitz was the leading U.S. Navy authority on submarines. He oversaw the conversion of these vessels' propulsion from gasoline to diesel, and then later was key to acquiring approval to build the world's first nuclear-powered submarine, USS Nautilus, whose propulsion system later completely superseded diesel-powered submarines in the U.S. The chief of the Navy's Bureau of Navigation in 1939, Nimitz served as Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) from 1945 until 1947. He was the United States' last surviving officer who served in the rank offleet admiral. more....... Zachary Scott (February 21, 1914 – October 3, 1965)[1] was an American actor, most notable for his roles as villains and "mystery men".
Born in Austin, Texas, he was a distant cousin of George Washington, and his grandfather had been a very successful cattle rancher. Scott intended to be a doctor like his father, Zachary Scott Sr. (1880–1964),[2] but after attending the University of Texasfor a while, he decided to switch to acting. He signed on as a cabin boy on a freighter which took him to England, where he acted in repertory theatre for a while, before he returned to Austin, and began acting in local theater. Alfred Lunt discovered Scott in Texas and convinced him to move to New York City, where he appeared on Broadway. Scott made his debut on Broadway in a revival of Ah, Wilderness! in 1941 with a small role as a bartender. Three years later, Jack Warner saw him in a performance of Those Endearing Young Charms and signed him to appear in The Mask of Dimitrios. more....... |
