Alexander Murray Palmer "Alex" Haley (August 11, 1921 – February 10, 1992)[1] was an American writer known as the author of the 1976 book Roots: The Saga of an American Family. The book was adapted by ABC as a TV mini-series of the same name and aired in 1977 to a record-breaking 130 million viewers. It had great influence on awareness in the United States of African-American history and inspired a broad interest in genealogy and family history.
Haley's first book was 1965's The Autobiography of Malcolm X, a collaboration through numerous lengthy interviews with the subject, a major African-American leader.[4][5][6] He was working on a second family history novel at his death. Mike Douglas (August 11, 1920[1][2][3] – August 11, 2006) was an American "Big Band" era singer, entertainer, and television talk show host (The Mike Douglas Show). Douglas was born Michael Delaney Dowd, Jr., in Chicago, Illinois, and began singing as a choirboy. By his teens he was working as a singer on a Lake Michigan dinner cruise ship. After serving in the United States Navy in World War II and as a "staff singer" for WMAQ-TV in Chicago, he moved to Los Angeles. He was on the Ginny Simms radio show. After that, Douglas joined the big band of Kay Kyser as a singer.Although big band swing faded from popularity as WWII ended, Kyser had to continue performing due to contractual obligations, and continued to log a few hits with Douglas, including two notable hits, "Ole [or Old] Buttermilk Sky" in 1946 and "The Old Lamplighter" the following year. Kyser was responsible for giving him his show business name, and he continued to perform with the band until Kyser retired in 1951 due to health problems. In 1950, he provided the singing voice of Prince Charming in Walt Disney's Cinderella.

Jerry Lamon Falwell, Sr. (August 11, 1933 – May 15, 2007)[1] was an American evangelical Southern Baptist pastor, televangelist, and aconservative political commentator.[2] He was known for his stance against homosexuality.[3][4] He was the founding pastor of the Thomas Road Baptist Church, a megachurch in Lynchburg, Virginia. He founded Lynchburg Christian Academy (now Liberty Christian Academy) in 1967 andLiberty University in 1971 and co-founded the Moral Majority in 1979.
Falwell and his twin brother, Gene, were born in the Fairview Heights region of Lynchburg, Virginia, the sons of Helen Virginia (Beasley) and Carey Hezekiah Falwell.[3][5][6] His father was an entrepreneur and one-time bootlegger who was agnostic.[3] His grandfather was a staunch atheist.[3] Jerry Falwell married the former Macel Pate on April 12, 1958. Arlene Carol Dahl (born August 11, 1925[1] or 1928[note 1]) is an American actress and former MGM contract star, who achieved notability during the 1950s. She has three children, the eldest of whom is actor Lorenzo Lamas.
Dahl was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, of Norwegian descent, to Idelle (née Swan) and Rudolph S. Dahl, a Ford Motor dealer and executive.[2] She cites her year of birth as 1928,[3] although her birth record (1925-43442), available through the Minnesota Historical Society, shows she was born in 1925.[1] After graduating from Washburn High School, she held various jobs, including performing in a local drama group and briefly working as a model for department stores. Dahl's mother was involved in local amateur theatre. As a child, Dahl took elocution and dancing lessons and was active in theatrical events at Margaret Fuller Elementary School, Ramsey Junior High School and Washburn Senior High School.
