Edgar Buchanan (March 20, 1903 – April 4, 1979) was an American actor with a long career in both film and television, most familiar today as Uncle Joe Carson from the Petticoat Junction, Green Acres and The Beverly Hillbillies teWilliam Edgar Buchanan, born in Humansville, Missouri, moved with his family to Oregon when he was seven.[1]Buchanan earned a DDS degree from North Pacific College School of Dentistry (which later became Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry).[2] Like his father before him, he was a successful dentist. He and his wife Mildred (1907–1987), classmates in dental school, were married in 1928. In 1939, they moved from Eugene, Oregon, toAltadena, California where they moved their dental practice. He joined the Pasadena Playhouse as an actor. He appeared in his first film in 1939, at the age of thirty-six, after which he turned his dentistry practice over to his wife. He was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity and a Freemason.[3]levision sitcoms of the 1960s. Oswald George "Ozzie" Nelson (March 20, 1906 – June 3, 1975) was an American band leader, actor, television director and producer. Nelson originated and starred in The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, a radio and long-running television series with his wifThe second son of George Waldemar and Ethel Irene (née Orr) Nelson, Nelson was born in Jersey City, New Jersey. His paternal grandparents were Swedish and his mother was of English descent. Nelson was raised in Ridgefield Park where he was active in Scouting, earning the rank of Eagle Scout at age 13. He played football at Ridgefield Park High Schoolas well as during his college years at Rutgers University. He was a member of the Cap and Skull fraternity,[2] and enteredRutgers School of Law–Newark. As a student he made pocket money playing saxophone in a band and coaching football. Robert Gordon "Bobby" Orr, OC (born March 20, 1948) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. Orr played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for ten seasons with the Boston Bruins, joining the Chicago Black Hawks for two more. Orr is widely acknowledged to be one of the greatest hockey players of all time.[1][2] As a defenceman, Orr used hisice skating speed and scoring and play-making abilities to revolutionize the position.[3] As of 2013, Orr remains the only defenceman to have won the league scoring title with two Art Ross Trophies and holds the record for most points andassists in a single season by a defenceman. Orr won a record eight consecutive Norris Trophies as the NHL's best defenceman and three consecutive Hart Trophies as the league's most valuable player (MVP). Orr was inducted into theHockey Hall of Fame in 1979 at age 31. He was the youngest to be inducted into the Hall at that time. Wendell Reid Corey (March 20, 1914 – November 8, 1968) was an American actor and politician. He was born in Dracut, Massachusetts, the son of Milton Rothwell Corey (October 24, 1879 – October 23, 1951) and Julia Etta McKenney (April 11, 1882 – June 16, 1947). His father was a Congregationalist clergyman. Wendell was educated in Springfield. Corey began his acting career on the stage, doing a number of productions in summer stock. While appearing with aWorks Progress Administration theatre company in the late 1930s, he met his future wife, Alice Wiley. Corey and Wiley had one son and three daughters, Jonathan, Jennifer, Bonnie Alice, and Robin. His Broadway debut was in Comes the Revelation (1942). After appearing in a number of supporting roles, he scored his first hit as a cynical newspaperman in Elmer Rice's comedy Dream Girl (1945). While appearing in the play, Corey was seen by producer Hal Wallis, who persuaded him to sign a contract with Paramount and pursue a motion picture career in Hollywood. more....... |
