Desiderio Alberto Arnaz y de Acha, III (March 2, 1917 – December 2, 1986), better known as Desi Arnaz or Desi Arnaz, Sr., was a Cuban-born American musician, actor and television producer. He is best remembered for his role as Ricky Ricardo on the American television series I Love Lucy, starring with Lucille Ball, to whom he was married at the time. Arnaz was also internationally renowned for leading his Latin music band, the Desi Arnaz Orchestra. He and Ball are generally credited as the inventors of the rerun in connection with I Love Lucy.[2] Arnaz was born Desiderio Alberto Arnaz y de Acha, III, in Santiago de Cuba to Desiderio Alberto Arnaz II (March 8, 1894 – May 31, 1973) and his wife Dolores de Acha (April 2, 1896 – October 24, 1988).[3] His father was Santiago's youngest mayor and also served in the Cuban House of Representatives. His maternal grandfather was Alberto de Acha, an executive at Bacardi Rum.[4] According to Arnaz, in his autobiography A Book (1976), the family owned three ranches, a palatial home, and a vacation mansion on a private island in Santiago Bay, Cuba. Following the 1933 Cuban Revolution, led by Fulgencio Batista, which overthrew President Gerardo Machado, Alberto Arnaz was jailed and all of his property was confiscated. He was released after six months when his brother-in-law Alberto de Acha intervened on his behalf.[4] The family then fled to Miami, Florida, where Desi attended St. Patrick Catholic High School. Jennifer Jones (March 2, 1919 – December 17, 2009), also known as Jennifer Jones Simon, was an American Oscar-winning actress during the Hollywood golden years. Jones, who won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in The Song of Bernadette (1943), was also Academy Award-nominated for her performances in four other films. She married three times, most notably to film producer David O. Selznick.Jones starred in more than twenty films over a thirty-year career, going into semi-retirement following Selznick's death in 1965. In 1980, she founded the Jennifer Jones Simon Foundation For Mental Health And Education after her daughter's suicide. In later life, Jones withdrew from public life to live in quiet retirement with her son and his family in Malibu, California. Jones was born Phylis Lee Isley[1] in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the daughter of Flora Mae (née Suber) and Phillip Ross Isley.[2] An only child, she was raised Roman Catholic.[3] Her parents toured the Midwest in a traveling tent show that they owned and operated. She attended Monte Cassino, a girls' school and junior college in Tulsa and then Northwestern University in Illinois, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, before transferring to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City in 1938. Jay Wesley Osmond (born on March 2, 1955) is a member of the famed Osmond family of performers. He is a world-class drummer who started his career at age 2. He provided the beat for the family male quintet The Osmonds. Osmond was born in Ogden, Utah, the sixth son of Olive May (née Davis) and George Virl Osmond. Four of the Osmonds were cast over a seven-year period on NBC's The Andy Williams Show. They also appeared in nine episodes of the 1963-1964 ABC western television series, The Travels of Jaimie McPheeters, with Jay in the role of young Lamentations Kissel. The series starred then 12-year-old Kurt Russell on a wagon train headed to the American West.[1] Jay married Kandilyn Harris on August 25, 1987. They were divorced in 2011. Together they have three sons: Jason George (born on September 23, 1988), Eric Clinton (born on January 2, 1991) and Marcus Jay (born on January 8, 1996). Jay's oldest son Jason married Lauren Merrill on March 11,2011 and they have one son, Grayson George, born in February 5 2013. They're expecting another child next year 2015. Karen Anne Carpenter (March 2, 1950 – February 4, 1983) was an American singer and drummer. She and her brother, Richard, formed the 1970s duo the Carpenters.
Although her skills as a drummer earned admiration from drumming
luminaries and peers, she is best known to the layman for her vocal
performances. She had a contralto vocal range.[1]
Carpenter suffered from anorexia nervosa, an eating disorder which was little known at the time. She died at age 32 from heart failure caused by complications related to her illness.[2] Carpenter's death led to increased visibility and awareness of eating disorders.[3] Carpenter was born in New Haven, Connecticut, the daughter of Agnes Reuwer (née Tatum) and Harold Bertram Carpenter.[4] When she was young, she enjoyed playing baseball with other children on the street. On the TV program This Is Your Life, she stated that she liked pitching.[5] Later, in the early 1970s, she would become the pitcher on the Carpenters' official softball team.[6] Her brother Richard developed an interest in music at an early age, becoming a piano prodigy.
